CLIFF | hunt library parasite

CMU, Pittsburgh, PA, USA

This is a parasite project of the exisiting library at Carnegie Mellon University. The design creates a entrance that attracts and welcomes visitors by substracting a grid-size box and the diagonal grid next to it and cutting off a slope on top. After subtraction, a volume is added to upper floors as terrace, adding a different circulation flow. More importantly, it creates a more dynamic study space. The slope is tranferred into stair study space. The diagonal wall creates a negative group study space inside. The terrace can be used as private study space and group gathering or a place to take a rest and enjoy the view outisde of the window.
