URABN BRIDGE | water community
Six Mile Island, Pittsburgh, PA, USA
In early research, it is shown that in Sharpsburgh, there are environmental issues like flooding and island erosion and social issues like lack of public gathering space. The design idea is to use BRIDGE as a social bond connecting Six Mile Island and Sharpsburgh neighborhood and to use Six Mile Island as a wetland infrastructure system that filters outflow sewage water and river water.
There are two main circulations of the bridge- the building bridge and the pedestrian bridge. The pedestrian and the first half of the building bridge serve as circulation systems and public park that draws people from sharpsburgh to the island. There are two branches on the building bridge as well starting at the riverside. They are residential units that are designed to have the best views of the river in the living room.
